The Egyptian pound (LE) is closely linked with the US dollar. Because of this, most shops and hotels accept the US Dollar, now the Euro is also accepted in most hotels.

It is generally advised to bring plenty of cash money in Euros or US-Dollars. Most large hotels and restaurants on the Sinai also accept credit cards (VISA, MasterCard). Please keep in mind that an extra charge of about 5% is placed on the bill when paying by credit card. There are numerous ATMs and banks in Nuweiba and all over the Sinai, these only give you LE. Travellers cheques are accepted at all banks, but no commercial company within Nuweiba will accept them.

We do not advise you to exchange money into LE in your home country, as the exchange rate is generally miserable compared to that in Egypt.
