The most amazing part of the Blue Desert is not the blue, now unfortunately rather pale colour on the rocks; it is the wadi, in front of the legendary blue sky and horizon of the Sinai. The desert sand here is covered by massive granite blocks and golden rocks - lieing between beautiful mountains.
The Blue Desert is the perfect destination for rock climbing, picture taking or just to get away from the stressfull big cities. In 1980, the belgian artist Jean Verame came to the Sinai desert in order to paint a peace line. With the permission of Anwar Sadats, and the 10 tonnes of paint granted by the UN, the artist managed to paint on 4 miles of the Sinai. One year later a straight drew itself between Dahab and St. Catherine. You can experience the Blue Desert in a single day excursion, it is a perfect place for camping - but make sure you arrange for a guide that knows his way around! |
